Course Information

Introduction

Sustainable urban development poses a multitude of challenges and opportunities, especially in the Middle East region.
Around the world, about 70 percent of greenhouse gases, two thirds of the energy consumed, and 60 percent of water consumption can be attributed to cities.
Especially in arid regions, an efficient water supply is crucial.
To face the challenges arising from urbanization and demographic change, cities are looking at ways to improve the efficiency of their infrastructures.
The goal of sustainable development is to enable all people throughout the world to satisfy their basic needs and enjoy a better quality of life without compromising the quality of life of future generations.

Objectives

This course is organized of five modules each with a specific theme or concentration.
The goal is to offer a general overview accompanied with case studies to the topic of sustainable development with emphasis on sustainable built environment.
The course aims to meet the continuing education needs of professionals who are involved in the process of green building design and/or real estate development or for those who need further learning on the principals of sustainable design.
This program will also benefit government officials, architects, engineers, and general public sectors who are interested in managing the design and construction process of a green building.
On completion of the course, the learners will be able to:
• Present a working definition of Sustainable Development
• Understand the principals of sustainable cities and buildings.
• Understand the relationship between energy, carbon, and sustainability.
• Understand the design and post design process.
• Review case studies and different examples for a variety of building typologies.

Who Should Attend?

Senior and junior engineers concerned with the electrical power system installation operation and managements.
In addition, the course will be valuable to senior technicians working in large industrial applications. The course targets also high qualified technician who are involved with the operation, control and protection of electrical installations.
More experienced managers can test their existing decision processes, and newer managers can earn to structure their approach to business decisions.
